The Youth Services Division of Queens Library's Central Library was the grateful recipient of $2,000 worth of children's and teen's books donated by twelve American Legion posts in Queens. This marks the 11th year of American Legion's generosity. It was particularly important this year, since budget woes have trimmed the funds available for purchasing new library materials. The books were purchased from a "wish list" created by the librarians. The American Legion was able to purchase each of the 125 books on the list. Queens Library is an independent, not-for-profit corporation and is not affiliated with any other library. The Queens Library serves a population of 2.2 million in the most ethnically diverse county in the U.S. With a record 23 million items in circulation for FY 2009, the Library has the highest circulation of any public library system in the U.S. and one of the highest circulations in the world.
